Making Music in LA Since 2012
Each year, on June 21st, we celebrate Make Music Day by asking you to tune up your instruments and MAKE MUSIC! We have been celebrating Make Music LA since 2012 and thank everyone who’s contributed along the way.
A free celebration of music and its power to bring communities together, Make Music Day was launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique. It is now held on the same day in more than 1200 cities in 120 countries.
Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.
A Message From Our Founder
Welcome to Make Music LA!
Each year, people around the world embrace the healing power of music on the first day of summer.
In Los Angeles, more than 200 languages are spoken - imagine what that means when it comes to music! We can travel the world through music! On June 21st, we will be in sync globally with the highest vibrations of music.
Make Music Day is filled with joy for music lovers. Whether outdoors in a park, porch, plaza, train station, or bus stop, everyone is welcome to participate. Make Music Day is free for everyone. We invite you to join us in celebrating Make Music Day worldwide. We are part of something special; you can participate in the fun. Play, listen, or host!
There are several easy ways to get involved—sign up to perform, or if you have a location to lend, whether a store, library, gallery, performance venue, or park, you can host an event and invite folks in your network to perform, or lend your venue for musicians to sign up to play. Make Music events around the world come in all scales and sizes—from porch concerts, buskers on the street, to theatres or clubs, all are welcome to join in the fun.
We look forward to another wonderful day and night of music.
Love,
Dorsay Dujon,
Make Music LA Founder
“Make Music LA is more than just a day of free concerts. It’s about engaging our children and their families, to transform lives through music.”
